Her tenure at The Washington Post was spent covering multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. Nichols started a nine-year period at ESPN in which she won 2 Emmy Awards, and featured on a number of the network's best shows like NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. Additionally, she worked as an anchor for Monday Night Football on the network. Next was CNN, and then Turner Sports. The show she first created and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN and CNN International. This show attracted millions of viewers from the entire world. Nichols also reported for TNT in NBA broadcasts during playoffs and broadcasts of the All-Star games. The work she did with TBS included baseball and golf coverage, as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. In the 42 year history of this award, it was the first time that an individual woman was one of the nominees.
